How to motivate your staff for the New Year

At the beginning of each New Year, it is a reflection time both to the staff and the employer. It is the time when new employees are joining the organization and the employer has a duty to set down the required guidelines. An employer should strive to leave by example, do not expect your employees to report to work at 8.00 every day when you walk in each day at 10.00 a.m. Find out from each employee the hurdles they faced over the past year that did not make them meet their goal. If they confide in you, strive to make a better work environment.

Motivation is the only way than an employer can use to keep their staff. When employees have to go to the Tuck shop each morning for a cup of tea, these are minutes wasted and can never be regained. Having tea and coffee for the entire staff will go along way in keeping them at their work station. They will have no reason to walk out for a cup of tea or coffee. Staff can also be motivated by providing newspaper that they can read during their free time. This has a way of keeping them busy. They will not spend endless time on the net surfing to keep busy. Create trust between the staff and the employer, allow them to spend a few hours each day reading their mail and reading the newspaper.
Creating conducive working environment gives staff a lot to look for during their working years. Each staff is important to the organization, whether it is the CEO, the watchman, the call-centre staff or the tea girl, they all have a part to play in the running of the organization and their jobs have to be appreciated. Having a get together party once at the end of the year is the best way to bring all the staff together giving them a chance to know each other individually. To be able to start on a good and working note, refocus on the running of the company and involve staff in any decision that involves their work environment.
